Dental veneers are shells made from durable and tooth-like ceramics which are bonded to the front of your teeth to help you create a smile that will boost your confidence. Veneers are a great alternative to more extensive cosmetic work and are sometimes preferred over other similar cosmetic procedures such as dental bonding.
Veneers can help you fix:
teeth that are severely stained or discoloured;
- cracked or chipped teeth;
- teeth that have been badly worn;
- uneven or crooked teeth;
- teeth with gaps between them; or
- teeth with large fillings.
If you would like to have your teeth improved through the installation of custom-made veneers, your experience at Niagara-on-the-Lake Dental would take place something like this:
Freezing
First Dr. Clark will freeze the area being worked on with a local anaesthetic. This will leave your teeth and gums numb, making sure that you are comfortable throughout the procedure.
Shaping
Dr. Clark will then proceed to reshape your teeth to create space for the veneers. This is done using a dental file to carefully shave away part of the enamel where the veneers will fit. Dr. Clark will ensure that only a minimum amount of enamel is removed so as to preserve the structural integrity of the teeth.
Impression and custom construction
Next, an impression will be taken of the newly shaped teeth. This is sent to the dental lab so that the professionals there will be able to produce custom-made veneers based on the moulds provided, making certain that the finished pieces fit perfectly. This may take up to a few weeks.
Texturing teeth
When you return to the office, Dr. Clark will treat your teeth with a mild acidic solution that will etch them, giving them a rough texture. This will allow for a stronger bond between the ceramic veneer and your natural teeth.
Cementing, Trimming and Polishing
Finally, the veneers are cemented to your teeth. A composite resin is applied and the veneers are carefully fitted one at a time. An intense light is then used to cure the dental cement and ensure a solid bond. Any rough portions resulting from excess cement will be carefully trimmed away and your teeth will be thoroughly polished, giving you a bright and dazzling smile.
